Gun accidentally discharged in LA girl's backpack, police say

A Los Angeles school shooting is believed to have been caused by a semi-automatic handgun that went off inside a 12-year-old girl's backpack, police said.

The girl, whose name was not released, was booked at a juvenile detention facility on a charge of negligent discharge of a firearm, said officer Tony Im of the Los Angeles Police Department.

BuzzFeed News reported that a 15-year-old male sustained a serious gun wound to the head, a 15-year-old female was shot on the wrist, two other students were grazed by gunfire, and a 30-year-old woman was taken to the hospital for minor injuries.
