Cordeiro clinched election on the third ballot, where he easily eclipsed the 50 percent threshold, winning 69 percent of the vote.

Caligiuri withdrew from the process after the round after polling just 0.5 per cent.

Solo's bid fell short as Cordeiro won the presidency, garnering almost 70 percent of the vote, but her message didn't fall on deaf ears.

In the third round, Cordeiro pulled away, drawing on Carter's support as she fell to 10.6 percent of the vote.

Wynalda and Solo received 8.9 and 1.4 per cent respectively. Clearly emotional at his victory, he thanked the other candidates "for a spirited campaign" and made a pitch for postelection unity.

"To those of you who didn't vote for me, I'm going to work to earn your trust and your support over the next four years".

One of eight running for president of the United States Soccer Federation (USSF), Solo pleaded with voters to unseat what she referred to as "the establishment" and the "status quo", calling out fellow candidates former USSF vice present Carlos Cordeiro and Soccer United Marketing CEO Kathy Carter by name in the first contested election since 1998.

He has served in various roles with US soccer since 2007 and in 2016 was named Vice President. I promise you I'm going to work with all of you to bring us together as one united soccer community.

Aguero scores 4 as leader Man City thrashes Leicester 5-1
Leicester boss Claude Puel will be frustrated by the result, but the two players are at least a threat to any side in the country. De Bruyne slipped Aguero through for another within 10 minutes, continuing his nearly certain PL Player of the Year campaign.

Cordeiro has also previously served as treasurer, chair of the Budget Committee and Director of the U.S. Soccer Foundation. In addition, he represents U.S. Soccer on the CONCACAF Council and FIFA's Stakeholders Committee.

He revealed at the beginning of December that his current term would be his last.

But the World Cup elimination, the large field of candidates and the angry tone of the race drew quite a bit of outside interest this year. Cordeiro and Carter, by virtue of their positions, were seen as establishment candidates and were joined by a host of other voices including former US men's national team players Eric Wynalda, Kyle Martino and Paul Caliguiri, former USA women's team goalkeeper Hope Soloal, Steve Gans and Michael Winograd. He spent 30 years as a business executive with experience in global finance.

They could choose to leave the position vacate until their AGM in 2019 or convene a special meeting to hold an election.
