USA snowboarder Shaun White romped to a record-breaking third gold medal at the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympic Games on Wednesday, but his celebrations were overshadowed by the resurfacing of past sexual assault allegations.

She had already secured gold with her first run, nailing a backside air, frontside 1080, cab 720, frontside 90, McTwist and frontside inverted 720, according to NBC Olympics.

That run, which included back-to-back 1260s, placed him above all others in the competitive and talented halfpipe field, which includes gold medal contenders Scotty James of Australia and Ayumu Hirano of Japan.

Japan's Ayumu Hirano passed White for first place in the second run, leaving White only one chance to retake the lead.

Australian flag bearer Scotty James will go up against United States legend Shaun White and Japanese flyer Ayumu Hirano for a gold medal on Wednesday.

But White came into the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018 not looking to live off his epic legend, but to lay down new chapters and, possibly, another gold medal. Still, the Pyeongchang Winter Games champ walked back a sliver of his response hours later.

Scotty James couldn't hide his emotions after he won bronze in the men's halfpipe final in PyeongChang. "Thank you, I'm feeling blessed", White added.

"Being here and being the guy at his fourth Olympics, I never felt like an underdog since I was a little kid", White said.

Ryan, who never met a word he didn't mince, was unusually candid in his response, though did not respond to the president by name. House Speaker Paul Ryan , R-Wis., said Wednesday the revelations were a sign of a "breakdown in the system".

But then White upstaged them all, just because, scoring a 98.50 on his final run, reintroducing himself as the favorite to win gold.

The Flying Tomato began his run flying down the left side of the halfpipe. "I need the build and the energy and it helps me get it done".

"I am fighting back the tears right now because I know my family is over there and when I see the people who made that happen and told me I could [achieve on the world stage] from day one, it will be pretty awesome", he said. The 31-year-old elder statesmen didn't plan on trying to go even bigger on his second run, but after watching James, Hirano and American teammate Ben Ferguson go big he realized he didn't have much choice.
