Why next year's flu vaccine will be lousy, too

US health officials on Friday said fewer visits to the doctor last week were for fever, cough and other flu symptoms than during the previous two weeks.

That measure dropped significantly last week, the first such decline of the season.

The Associated Press also reported, citing USA health officials, that the number of visits to the doctor related to the flu was down to 1 out of every 16.

The company said limited quantities of the vaccine continue to be available for the current season.

The 2017-2018 season has been a severe one, hitting the entire US with widespread influenza activity at once for weeks on end, and killing 97 children so far.

Doctors still recommend that the flu shot is the best way to protect against becoming seriously ill from influenza, but there are other steps you and your family can take to stay healthy.
