Christopher Wylie worked for Cambridge Analytica (CA), which is accused of using the private data of 50million Facebook users during Donald Trump's 2016 U.S. election bid for the White House. Wylie now claims that he believes that both Cambridge Analytica and Canadian company Aggregate IQ had an influence on the Brexit referendum as the Vote Leave campaign reportedly spent 40 percent of its budget on Aggregate IQ's services, targeting 7 million United Kingdom voters. He said that Cambridge Analytica was also used in countries that are struggling democracies, which he called "an example of what modern-day colonialism looks like".

Tyagi, shortly after the Facebook data theft controversy broke, told The Wire that SCL and Cambridge Analytica would use their experience and the work they had done in India to pad up their resume while "pitching to a big client".

His message includes documents which indicate that SCL India boasted of a database of "over 600 districts and 7 lakh villages, which is constantly being updated". In 2012, it says SCL India carried out a caste census in Uttar Pradesh on behalf of a national party, but doesn't specify the name.

Slide decks and promotional material released by Wylie show that SCL allegedly influenced elections pan India and across party lines.

It's far from clear that Cambridge Analytica's work was decisive - the point is that they used Facebook to harvest this data, without users' consent.

Referring to documents that he had submitted to the committee as part of its inquiry into fake news, Wylie, said: "There is a quote from somebody who until very recently ran the Prevent programme... that doesn't mean that [SCL] work on Prevent but I know that people who have worked on Prevent have also worked with SCL on projects". I don't remember a national project but I know regionally. The committee said Wylie provided it with documents including a services agreement between AIQ and SCL Elections, an affiliate of Cambridge Analytica, dated September 2014.

Wylie on Tuesday claimed that the data was sold to CA.

He attached three adjoining infographics that detail SCL's Indian operations and the year in which they took place.

In the second episode of the BBC documentary titled "The Persuasion Machine" Bartlett is seen entering the London office of Cambridge Analytica, as he enters the cabin of the CEO, Nix is seen standing up and shaking his hand, behind him hangs a framed poster with hand symbol of Congress party on the wall.

Reports had earlier suggested that CA had approached both the BJP and the Congress for the 2014 general elections as well as the upcoming 2019 polls, but nothing had worked out.
