Democrats outnumber Republicans in early voting

At this point, as the following chart indicates, Republican incumbents stand to face more competition than their Democratic counterparts from two key sources.

Today, Texas will hold the first primary of 2018, a precursor to the upcoming midterm elections in November.

This year's midterm elections officially kick off Tuesday with the Texas primaries, where voters will sift through jam-packed fields of Democratic candidates vying to take on vulnerable Republican members of Congress. Still, there is no doubt these numbers are likely concerning to Republicans hoping to keep the state red. The number of candidates running this year could be a big reason why early voter turnout has been so high.

Texas voters have already set a record for a non-presidential year during the early voting period, with over 700,000 ballots cast. On the Republican side, there had been only a 15 percent uptick. The Democratic primary features seven talented candidates, with Laura Moser, Alex Triantaphyllis and Lizzie Pannill Fletcher leading the pack in campaign fundraising.

She says local Democratic officials made a late change to the party's election judge who monitors that site.

NBC News also suggested four seats in US congressional races in Texas are up for grabs including District 32 in North Dallas, now held by Rep. Pete Sessions.

In the Republican primary, Mr. Cruz is being challenged by four candidates, including Stefano de Stefano, a Houston energy lawyer who has accused Mr. Cruz's campaign of claiming Mr. Cruz was uncontested in the primary.
