Seahawks trade Michael Bennett to Eagles

The Seahawks decided defensive end Michael Bennett's time with the team was up despite him earning three-straight Pro Bowl selections and winning a Super Bowl for Seattle. Apparently, they have found a suitor: the Eagles.

The news came down amid reports that Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman could also be facing the end of his Seattle days.

The trade can't be officially announced until March 14, when the 2018 league year begins.

During a contentious conference call last week, Wilder delivered an unsparing assessment of Ortiz: "Once a cheat, always a cheat". Even though Ortiz has overcome many of his doping issues, it seems as though he was there last night just to make up the numbers.

As a result of the trade, it appears as if the Eagles are getting ready to trade defensive end Vinny Curry. Considering the Seahawks almost traded Lane to Houston past year, they clearly have little faith in him as a long-term piece.

They had a great run with the likes of Bennett and other fearsome players on one of the league's most formidable defenses. Last season it would have been $15.831 million. The 32-year-old pass rusher played through three injuries last season yet had 8 1/2 sacks and 24 quarterback hits before playing in his third Pro Bowl in January. He is one of the NFL players who chose to sit during the national anthem.

The trade saves $2.2 million in cap money for 2018 but gets Seattle out from under more onerous money in in 2019 and 2020 that was part of his contract extension he signed in 2016. But even so, Bennett will join an edge rushing unit stacked with names such as Graham, Barnett, Chris Long, and Steven Means.

How much of reports of the Seahawks wanting theirs to be "quiet ... compared to over the last couple years" were valid, and whether that really was the motivation to trade Bennett, is in question. However, it looks like the Super Bowl champions have been keeping themselves busy as well when it comes to making trade moves, with Michael Bennett being the flawless example.
