While there will be no flights taking off or landing at Dublin Airport today, it will remain open, with snow and ice clearing crews still working, according to the Dublin Airport Authority's spokesperson Siobhan O'Donnell.

Hundreds of flights have been cancelled at New Jersey, Philly and NY airports due to a powerful nor'easter making its way through the area packing wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour and heavy rain.

Edinburgh Airport tweeted that "some airlines do not have the critical mass of staff to run operations securely" and later added that British Airways, Ryanair, easyJet, Turkish, KLM, Flybe, Aer Lingus and Air France had "decided not to fly today, [March 1, 2018]".

In a statement released on Twitter, the airline said: "All flights scheduled to/from Dublin, Cork, Kerry, Knock & Shannon Airports on Friday 2nd March have been cancelled".

"We are now managing weather challenges, but it is a fluid and evolving situation and we are monitoring developments closely".

Flights are expected to resume on Saturday morning.

The spokesperson said that they are awaiting news from other airlines on their schedules.

"We are only half way through our £2.7bn investment program, our long haul network now reaches over 60 destinations, and we have some exciting tech and service innovations coming soon so we continue to deliver the very best airport experience for our passengers".

Any passengers whose flights have been cancelled should not come to the airport.

"Today remains challenging and there will be disruption".

There is no public transport operating between the airport and Cork City and taxis are in low supply.
