The cooperating Mueller witness, George Nader, is a Lebanese American businessman who helped organize and attended the Seychelles meeting.
Special counsel Robert S. Mueller III has gathered evidence that a secret meeting in Seychelles just before the inauguration of Donald Trump was an effort to establish a back channel between the incoming administration and the Kremlin - apparently contradicting statements made to lawmakers by one of its participants, according to people familiar with the matter.
Nader - and the Seychelles meeting - are of interest to Mueller's team as it examines whether any foreign money or assistance fueled the Trump campaign, and how Trump officials during the transition and early days of the administration communicated with foreign officials.
Anti-EU Parties Win in Italy, Not Enough to Govern
Led by Luigi Di Maio , the populist 5-Star Movement came out as the main victor of Sunday's poll, with roughly 31% of the votes. The League, who were the junior to Forza Italia , won 17% of the votes whilst the latter was trailing with 14% of the votes.
Rice sought the names of senior Trump officials in order to find out why Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed al-Nahyan, the crown prince of the UAE, chose to visit NY late 2017, she told the committee in a closed-door interview, according to a CNN report at the time.
Schiff acknowledged that interviewing Nader possibly rests on securing permission from the investigators in Mueller's probe - permission the panel has not yet requested.
The Washington Post first reported that Mueller has gathered evidence that the secret meeting in Seychelles was an attempt to establish a back channel between Russian Federation and the incoming Trump administration. He said the goal of the meeting was for a Trump representative to meet with a Russian official close to President Vladimir Putin to discuss relations between the two nations.
7.1 quake strikes near Papua New Guinea
The nation was hit with the powerful quake on February 26, and it was followed by very strong aftershocks. At least 55 people have been confirmed dead, while authorities fear that the death toll could exceed 100.
Erik Prince, the brother of Education Secretary Betsy DeVos and a former adviser to Trump, was at the meeting. But on top of the reportedly illicit nature of the meeting, Prince's role as a representative for the Trump administration is disconcerting, given his reputation as a war profiteer and anti-Muslim Crusader. He's met numerous times with investigators, the Post reported. The crown prince is widely known as MBZ.
"We don't know what happened [in the Seychelles meeting], but if [Mueller] fails to investigate that, he's not doing his job", Napolitano said. He denies the meeting was meant to set up that communication channel. Mueller is seeking documents from witnesses regarding the president and several of his closest advisers and campaign associates, as CBS News has reported.
