Senate Democrats win vote on net neutrality, a centerpiece of 2018 strategy

The Senate resolution would overturn a vote by the agency in December to scuttle its open-internet regulations.

Cruz, who voted down the Congressional Review Act (CRA) forced to the floor by Democrats, told IJR that he's not concerned over Democrats using his vote against him or other Republicans up for reelection in the fall.

Back in December, the FCC repealed "net neutrality" rules that ensured equal treatment for all web traffic. Supporters of net neutrality say it allows everyone to access the internet on a fair basis, and prevents companies from charging users extra to visit popular websites.

The effort, which has built momentum in recent weeks, also is meant to elevate net neutrality as a political issue in the fall elections. Evenif the legislation clears Congress, it still would have to be signed into law by President Trump, who has been critical of net neutrality.

The resolution's fate is uncertain in the House and it's unlikely to have President Donald Trump's support, the Washington Post reported.
