Muguruza demolished Maria Sharapova in straight sets yesterday to set up a semi-final showdown against Halep, who is the current world No 1.

Simona Halep went from out-of-sorts to on-target against Angelique Kerber, scrambling to every ball and staying the course to erase an early deficit.

Top-ranked Simona Halep has rallied past Angelique Kerber 6-7 (2), 6-3, 6-2 to reach the French Open semifinals. "So I think that's why I won today". In the victory, Halep won 61 percent of her first serve points and 53 percent of her second serve points.

"I mean, it's not that important, because it's constantly this thing going on, you know. since past year", she said after a crushing 6-2, 6-1 last-eight victory over Maria Sharapova in Paris.

But it was the German who started the stronger, out-hitting her rival with lethal accuracy, to win the first four games as Halep struggled to find her serving rhythm and peppered the tramlines with unforced errors. The victor earns a berth in the final at Roland Garros, plus the number one ranking that now belongs to Halep.

With plastic making up 10% of the total waste generated, half of it used is disposable or single-use. Also, many people are promoting the use of cloth bags over plasting and also by planting trees.

Halep is still chasing her first Grand Slam title after several near-misses.

Sharapova was sloppy throughout the day, totaling six double-faults to one ace and 27 unforced errors with just 10 winners.

"I think Serena hated me for being the skinny kid who beat her, against all odds, at Wimbledon", Sharapova wrote.

Sharapova didn't need to play a point in the fourth round, because Serena Williams pulled out of their much-anticipated match with a pectoral injury. She is less comfortable on the clay compared to Stephens and can get rattled when opponents make her run too much.

Kerber eventually prevailed in a tiebreak, but Halep came out all guns blazing in the second, firing baseline bullets at her opponent, who tried to cling on against the onslaught.

Maria Sharapova's return to the French Open ended in a crushing defeat when Garbine Muguruza emphatically silenced the shrieking Russian at Roland Garros. Like, before, I gave it a lot of importance so that's why you're fighting every week, and I got there.

But this gesture towards her coach Darren Cahill was more than a celebratory pose, it was a sign that this was 'the new Simo'. "I think everyone would ask me questions, as well", she said.

She has acknowledged having trouble handling her nerves, which is part of why she was so proud about the way she overcame Kerber, a two-time major champion and former No 1. "If I do that, I will be okay after the match, no matter the result".

And sure enough, we have seen a more tenacious Halep at play over the previous year, despite the glaring hole of two Grand Slam runner-up trophies in the space of eight months.

Nothing has really worked in the long run, and we are in the stage now where screen time is offered as reward for something else. Apple has said before that Dolby Atmos for Apple TV is coming, so rumours suggest it will be announced at this upcoming event.

It wasn't an easy win till Kerber needed a medical timeout in the third set.
