Liverpool FC began their summer spending at the start of the transfer window when they wrapped up a deal to sign Brazilian midfielder Fabinho.

With Nabil Fekir-to-Liverpool all but done, Julien Laurens describes what kind of player he is and where he'd be best suited in Jurgen Klopp's XI.

"Olympique Lyonnais informs that the negotiations with Liverpool and Nabil Fekir for the transfer of the captain of OL have not succeeded and that Olympique Lyonnais has made a decision to put an end to this negotiation tonight at 20h".

The 24-year-old Fekir reportedly had his medical with a view to a move for 65 million euros ($77 million), plus eventual bonuses. He ruptured a cruciate ligament in September 2015, causing him to miss the majority of the 2015/16 season.

The collapse - for now at least - of Liverpool's move for Fekir will be a setback for Jurgen Klopp.

In fact, latest reports from RMC Sport claim that the French worldwide has already passed his medical in France, and Liverpool could announce his arrival later today.

"It's always like that when you talk about a transfer: each tries to raise his price, to lower his price, when there's a hiccup someone wants it reduced".

Reports claim the deal was at a pretty advanced stage - despite Lyon's statement insisting otherwise. "It's part of the game", he said.

On Saturday news filtered through that Lyon were pulling out of negotiations to sell Fekir, despite the player having conducted media interviews for his would be club. Olympique Lyonnais is delighted to be able to count on the presence of their captain in 2018-2019'.

However, it does not look likely that any deal for Fekir will happen whilst France are in the World Cup, with Fekir being named as part of the 23 man squad that will play in Russian Federation.
