Microsoft Announces Its Cheapest And Lightest Surface Ever

Microsoft has today announced The Surface GO which is essentially a 10-inch tablet that can be had for only $599.

Two of the main differences when comparing the Surface Go with the Surface Pro (2017) is that is has a smaller screen and a lower tier processor. In regards to ports, it has a surface Connect which allows for USB-C, as well as a headphone jack (hurray!) and a MicroSDXC card reader.

It looks like Microsoft is getting ready to introduce a new Surface device.

The budget Surface device is said to be equipped with either 4GB or 8GB of RAM, and will be available with up to 128GB of internal storage.

ReutersEngland's Harry Kane will face off against Belgium's Romelu Lukaku in the World Cup final, according to Goldman Sachs. England last competed in the final four of the World Cup in 1990 when losing on penalties to West Germany.

Surface Go will be released August 2, and an LTE version will follow later this year, Microsoft's Chief Product Officer Panos Panay wrote in a blog post.

Under the hood, the Surface Go is powered by a 7th generation Intel Pentium Gold 4415Y processor.

The Surface Go runs Windows 10 S, a version of Windows that will only run apps found in the Microsoft Store - a walled-garden approach much in the same vein as Apple. Unfortunately, as with the more powerful Surface Pro tablets, a keyboard is not included, making the initial price a bit misleading.

Talking of visual appeal, no difference, except of course the size, has been made in the latest edition to Surface series.

Microsoft had developed a smaller Surface years ago.

If you're looking for speed, the Surface Go isn't for you. Lastly, Microsoft is also selling a Surface Mobile Mouse for $35.

It runs an Intel Pentium processor. The firm has taken its apparently popular Alcantara fabric and applied it to new Signature Type Covers for the Surface Go. Bloomberg's sources say the planned device is a 10-inch tablet with a starting price around $400, iPad-like rounded corners, and a USB Type-C port among its inputs. Consumers will receive the device with Windows 10 Home in S mode, while commercial customers will have the option for Windows 10 Pro.

The new tablet weighs 1.15 pounds, far lighter than existing Surface products. In that sense, the announcement of the slightly smaller Surface Go is just picking up where the Surface 3 left off. The tradeoff for all these features is battery life: Microsoft expects the Surface Go to get up to 9 hours of battery life, which is less than estimates for the Surface Laptop (14.5 hours), Surface Pro (13.5 hours), and Surface Book (17 hours). After even just a brief time with the Surface Go, we're plenty optimistic about it.
