Trump Wants 40 Foreign Mar-a-Lago Workers

Over the past decade, President Donald Trump's private foundation, the Donald J. Trump Foundation, gave hundreds of thousands of dollars in donations to charitable organizations after they hosted events at his private Mar-a-Lago golf club in Palm Beach, Florida.

According to records submitted to the U.S. Labor Department on Thursday and Friday, Mar-a-Lago also filed requests to obtain several visas for non-American servers and cooks, stating that the potential hires would stay in the U.S. for a period of seven months, earning between $12 to $13 an hour, depending on the position.

Trump centered much of his 2016 campaign under the promise of "America first" and "buy American and hire American", both sentiments he continues to push throughout his presidency.

The Palm Beach resort reportedly wanted to hire workers who would be employed using H-2B visas-which businesses usually obtain only if they are able to prove they can not find enough American workers to fill the vacancies.

According to the Palm Beach Post, the Red Cross received a $21,000 donation from the Trump Foundation in 2015-which was also the year in which it moved its event from The Breakers (a major high-end hotel in South Florida) back to Mar-a-Lago.

According to the July 3 federal job order, Trump wants 40 workers on H2-B visas to work as full-time restaurant servers from October 1, 2018, through May 31, 2019. That same week, however, "Mar-a-Lago was applying for foreign worker visas".

In 2017, Trump urged employers to "hire American" in his inaugural address before turning around, raising the national cap on H-2 visas issued yearly, and then nearly immediately applying for 76 new foreign-worker jobs at Mar-a-Lago. "They can't get people George".

Trump's own immigration plan calls for "companies to hire from the domestic pool of unemployed". Last year, the Department of Homeland Security and, soon after, Trump properties reincreased the cap on H-2B visasquested approval to hire dozens of workers. Many resorts in the Palm Beach area use the program to find seasonal help.

He sure loves hiring foreign workers on the cheap, though!
