Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has rejected former Manchester United captain Gary Neville's claims that the Reds should prioritise the Premier League over the Champions League.

"How should that work?"

"Over the last three seasons Alderweireld has been the most consistent centre-back but if it's right now and you're giving me a pair then that back five has to be all Liverpool". I don't understand, we play our kids or what?

"I know that's very hard to do but if they could go into February, March, April without it, I think they could have a real chance if they had free weeks".

Neville, who won just ten of his 28 games at Valencia in 2015/16 before being sacked, pointed to Liverpool's front three as lacking cover and said that they should forget the Champions League altogether during an interview with The Times.

"I don't know exactly what it means but to focus on one competition can only be if maybe you are already out of the competition almost".

Even this supposedly unfit and jaded version of Kane has scored 2 goals in 4 games thus far this season - breaking his August duck and managing to score a tremendous header against Manchester United despite not playing all that well.

"To focus on one competition can only be if you are already out, or almost out, or if it's late in the season". I think that's what let Liverpool down in the past - they had to play well to win, whereas now they look a lot more solid defensively and can still attack and score goals.

He might be looking exhausted right now following a seemingly non-stop period of action from last season all the way through the World Cup, but there's no doubt that Harry Kane is still the most unsafe player that Tottenham possess.

Klopp also moved to quieten the uncertainty over summer signing Fabinho.

"The thing is it is absolutely no problem". Fabinho is full of desire and wants to be involved and I have to tell him "You're not involved this week" and that's not nice.

"I think it will be an open game".
