The unidentified woman who abandoned a 2 year old boy on a doorstep Wednesday night has been interviewed and questioned by investigators with the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department.

This video shows the child being lifted into the air by his arm for several metres by the woman as she hurries up to the front door.

The woman then knocked on the door before turning around and running away, leaving the boy behind at the doorstep.

A woman answered the door and found the child - who she says she had never seen before - and two bags, Montgomery County Sheriff's Office said. "When she opened the door, she found a two-year-old child alone on her doorstep".

The woman approaches the door holding the toddler by the arm. The mother said she was in the hospital on Wednesday and asked her friend to drop the boy off. He was been taken into custody by Child Protective Services.

Video taken by the home's security system captured the woman dropping the child off. "At that time child protective services were contacted, and the child was released to their custody". The sheriff's office said in doing so, it placed the child in grave danger. The father told detectives that when the child hadn't arrived in the afternoon, he assumed plans changed and left for the evening.

He said it's possible she could face a child abandonment charge.
