As of Monday morning, several schools in Kansas, Missouri, Iowa and IL have been forced to close as a result of the snow. A swath of 10+ inch snowfall totals are expected, with locally higher amounts over a foot is possible-particularly in eastern Iowa/western IL. Heavy snow and gusts up to 45 miles per hour were forecast from 10 a.m. Sunday till 4 a.m. Monday.

More than 1,200 flights were cancelled on Sunday as travelers scrambled to get home after the Thanksgiving holiday.

The National Weather Service is predicting rain to begin falling early Sunday morning in the western part of the state before transitioning to snow by late morning.

The storm caused multiple highways and interstates to close across both Kansas and Missouri. However, there was a flooding risk near the shore and flood warnings were issued for Cook County, Ill., and Lake and Porter counties in IN, the National Weather Service Chicago reported.

The storm was forecast to hit parts of northern IN and southern MI early Monday before moving further East.
