Boeing Jet Crash-Lands At Guyana Airport, 6 Injured: Minister

A Fly Jamaica Boeing 757 airliner heading for Toronto made an emergency landing at the Georgetown, Guyana global airport after the pilot reported problems with the plane's hydraulic system. All of the 118 passengers and eight crew members on board are believed to be safe.

"They are all stable and are being looked at", Patterson said, adding that all the passengers and crew on board had been accounted for with "no reports of any broken bones or such".

According to reports, the emergency services at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport knew that the flight, which was headed to Canada, was in trouble within 45 minutes of take-off.

Six passengers were injured.

The airport said on its Facebook page that the injuries were considered to be non-life-threatening, but otherwise offered no further details on the crash.

"One of the wings came apart and the engine on the right side actually flipped over and we crashed into a big sand pile at the edge of a cliff".

They were taken to hospital.

The Fly Jamaica plane, bound for Toronto, suffered a hydraulic problem ten minutes after taking off from Georgetown airport at 2.10am and had to turn back.

Guyana's civil aviation authority is investigating.

A spokesperson for Fly Jamaica said it is providing local assistance for its passengers and "will furhter release information as soon as it is available".

The Fly Jamaica Airways plane was bound for Toronto when it suffered a hydraulic problem shortly after takeoff and returned to the airport, crashing and careening off the runway. The Public Infrastructure Minister said the United States' National Transportation Safety Board has been informed.
