A Wisconsin community is grieving the sudden loss of four lives, as a mother and three girl scouts were killed in a hit-and-run crash over the weekend that was allegedly the result of the driver "huffing".
The children were all fourth graders at Halmstad Elementary School and Southview Elementary School in nearby Chippewa Falls, about 90 miles (145 kilometres) east of Minneapolis.
A relative of one of the uninjured girls told the Minneapolis Star-Tribune that the children were area Girl Scouts in the fourth grade at Halmstad Elementary School in Chippewa Falls.
The vehicle then lurched back onto the road and sped off, according to police, leaving behind a scene of horror.
Two juvenile females and one adult female were pronounced dead at the scene.
"Our hearts are with our Girl Scout sisters in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin", Girl Scouts CEO Sylvia Acevedo tweeted on Sunday.
