The state is infamous for its role in the 2000 presidential election, which was won by Republican George W. Bush after a five-week recount drama that awarded him Florida's electoral votes by a 537-ballot margin over Democrat Al Gore.

A Broward County judge has ordered the immediate release of voter information sought by Florida Gov. Rick Scott from the county's supervisor of elections.

He said that by 4 p.m. Friday, 52 of the state's 67 counties have already provided their returns to the state. The suit also alleges failure to follow state law regarding "overvoted" and "undervoted" absentee ballots, where a voter selects too many candidates or not candidates.

The threshold for a recount will be determined by the number of ballots reported by the canvassing board by noon Saturday.

Florida Governor Rick Scott is excoriating Palm Beach County for what he says is their refusal to comply with a judge's order about their ballot counting process after the midterm elections.

Ballots are still being counted in some tight races in Florida, Georgia and Arizona, even as lawyers head to court to challenge the procedures being used.

Why is she so flippant about flouting Florida's election laws?

However, the FDLE has said it is not investigating Snipes at this time, as no allegations of voter fraud have been received and Scott has not put his request in writing.

The AP has not called a victor in the Senate race.

Meanwhile, Democrat Stacey Abrams' campaign for Georgia governor has reserved television advertising time and started sending vote-by-mail information to its supporters in the event she forces a December 4 runoff with Republican Brian Kemp. They also asked for the Saturday deadline to be extended.

Earlier Friday, Nelson lawyer Marc Elias criticized Scott for suggesting that he might get the state government involved.

He said that local election supervisor Brenda Snipes, a Democrat, has a "horrible history" and is "finding votes out of nowhere".

The gap between Mr Scott - the outgoing governor of Florida - and incumbent Democratic Senator Nelson has narrowed to 0.2% as of Friday as Broward County votes are counted. "It is frightening. Legal teams are engaging, but this is something that Democrats and Republicans should be coming together on because I don't know how these 80,000 votes came out of thin air and why isn't she following the law set forth by state of Florida?"

"Fifteen thousand is a lot of votes when you are talking about an election of one million votes or two million votes". And state Rep. Holly Raschein, R-Key Largo, held on to her seat for a final term with 20,441 votes to her challenger Steve Friedman's 15,442.

"If you look at Broward County, they have had a awful history", Trump added, referring to a Democrat-heavy county where officials were slowly counting votes including absentee and provisional ballots. Rick Scott alleged that "left-wing activists" could be trying to "steal" his proclaimed victory in the race for U.S. Senate. The machine recount could begin that same day, with the results due by November 15. He is all but saying the election will only be legitimate if the tally is stopped right now and Republicans are declared the winners, no matter how many people's votes are not counted.

In the governor's race, Democrat Andrew Gillum's campaign said Thursday it's readying for a possible recount.
